Fuel Storage

Over time, the quality of fuel left in your fuel tank reduce. This can lead to starting issues especially when dealing with seasonally used fuel driven apparatus such as mowers or a camping generator.

Petrol can become stale, leading to ‘gumming’ up of the fuel lines and fuel pump and tank. Diesel can do a similar thing called ‘waxing.’  Fuels sold at you local petrol station will contain additives to help delay this process but even they can only do so much.

Here are a few tips to try and get the best out of stored fuel.

1. Try and keep fuel in an airtight container, an absolutly airtight container can help prolong its optimum life to up to 6 months before any significant detoriation begins to occur.

2. A higher octane fuel will detoriate at a slower rate than a less quality fuel.

3. Consider using a fuel stabiliser. A good quality fuel stabiliser used at the optimum dilution can help protect a tank of fuel for a few years.

Turbo nozzle for high pressure wahers

The turbo nozzle is an attachment to the end of a high pressure lance that increases the efficiency of the pressure washer, by creating a circular motion for a pinpoint jet. This has the effect of increasing the pressure and also having the benefit of a wide fan shaped spray pattern. The turbo nozzle is attached to the end of the lance by a quick release ‘mini’ fitting.

Other attachments available are the Foam spray applicator, the water broom and the drain cleaning kit.

Top 10 Pressure washer tips:

  1. Be sure to specify the correct pressure washer for the job. If you use a machine all day long and buy a pressure washer that is not designed for prolonged use, it will be worn out in a very short time.
  2. Ensure that all hoses are in good condition. If you have a leak in the suction hose, you could draw air into the pump, this will reduce the pressure and may damage the pump if the leak is bad enough, as the pump relies on water to keep it cool. If the high pressure hose is leaking, you will loose a lot of pressure and the pressure washer will be a lot less efficient.
  3. Filters- if you are using the mains supply, it is not necessary to filter the water into the pump. if you are drawing from a barrell or tank, it is very important that only clean water is used and the filter on the end of the suction hose is fitted and in good condition. If you draw water from a stream for example, it is easy to pick up dirty water- this will reduce the life of the pump.
  4. Never run the pressure washer without a water supply – the high pressure pump uses the water passing through the pump to keep it cool, without water, it will over heat and damage the seals.
  5. When starting the machine, squeeze the trigger on the gun to release the build up of pressure. Without this the engine will be difficult to pull start.
  6. Check engine oil and pump oils on a daily basis
  7. Change all oils every 100 hours
  8. Keep the pressure washer out of frost
  9. Always use fresh, clean fuel – petrol these days has a very short lifespan and after a couple of months it will loose it’s igniting properties and can cause starting problems – if the petrol pressure washer has been stored for sometimne, it may be necessary to drain the fuel tank and the carburettor and fill with new petrol.
  10. Always operate in the open air- do not operate petrol engined machines in confined spaces as there is a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Also if a diesel or petrol engine pressure washer is used in a confined space, like the back of a van, it will draw the exhaust fumes back into the engine, causing the air filter to clog and possibley severe damage to the engine.

Hyundai HYW3600GB Gear Drive Petrol Pressure Washer

The NEW Hyundai HYW3600GB Pressure Washer with gear drive triplex pump is now available in the UK.

Powered by the Hyundai 390cc 4-stroke OHV petrol engine coupled to the gear drive triplex pump, with brass head, ceramic pistons, thermal relief valve and easi-prime system.

This is a heavy duty commercial grade pressure washer, designed to cover the ground. Ideal for farmers, drive way cleaning, builders, commercial vehicle fleets etc.

The advantage of the Gear Drive pumps, is that it is coupled to the Hyundai engine via a reduction gearbox, this allows the pump to rotate at half the engine speed. The lifespan of the pump is greatly prolonged thanks to this and the load transmitted to the engine is also reduced, so increasing the lifespan of the engine also.
