General questions:
What generator do you recommend for an average home?
The Hyundai DHY6000SE, produces a maximum of 5KW, so should be able to cope with most household appliance, provided care is taken not to run everything simultaneously. We can provide you with a Moeller 100 Amp changeover switch, to change between the mains and the generator.
For the ultimate standby generator, we would recommend the Hyundai DHY11KSEm or DHY18KSEm with Automatic Mains Failure Switch-over. These are 11kva and 18kva silenced diesel generators that will start automatically if the mains fail. We also offer a full installation service. (All electrical work should be completed by a qualified electrician).
What is the cheapest generator to run?
The Hyundai DHY6000SELR is by far the cheapest, as the cost of 'red'* diesel is approximately a third the cost of road diesel or petrol.
*Red diesel is so called as it is coloured red, theer is no Road Tax on this fuel, so the cost is approx. 1/3 the cost of road going diesel commonly available on the service station forecourt. Red diesel can be bought from your local heating oil supplier. typically the minimum order quantity would be 250 litres, but please confirm with your oil supplier.
How long is the warranty?
The Hyundai Leisure generators have a 2 year warranty. This is a 1st year parts and labour and 2nd year parts only. All other machines have a 12 month/1000h warranty for home/domestic use. For commercial use we offer a 90 day warranty.
What differentiates your generators from the rest?
Hyundai generators are manufactured to a very high and exacting specifications. With a very high degree of quality control throughout the manufacturing process. All machines are tested before leaving the factory and again before we despatch them from our premises, using our test bed to measure volts, amps and hertz. We perform a thorough 50 point pre-delivery inspection, so machines are delivered in a ready to use condition, including oil and a fully charged battery etc. where applicable.
Do you sell spare parts?
We keep all spare parts for the Hyundai and Evopower range in stock. Stephill generator parts are normally available on an overnight delivery. Please contact us with your requirements.
Will you arrange collection in the case of a warranty problem?
In most cases we will arrange collection of your Hyundai machine - some areas of the UK may incur a surcharge.
For Evopower, the return of the machine to ourselves is the customers responsibility, however, we can arrange this at cost price if necessary. We will return the machine to you at our expense.
How long does delivery take?
If we receive your order by 1200h, we aim to despatch the same day. We use a 2-3 day service as standard, through the Palletways network or 24 hour service with TNT or UPS parcels network.
Are your generators ready to run?
All Hyundai and Evopower generators are filled with oil and have a fully charged battery (if applicable). We run each generator before despatch, to ensure that the machine is set up correctly. All you need to do is add fuel and you're ready to go!
Do the petrol generators run on straight unleaded petrol?
All petrol generators we sell run on straight unleaded petrol - not to be confused with the cheaper 2-stroke generators on the market.
Do you sell any other equipment?
We sell Petrol and Diesel High pressure washers, Air compressors, Wacker plates, Water pumps etc.
What pressure washer should I choose?
The EPW3200 is powered by a Loncin 7hp petrol 4-stroke engine with a triplex pump with brass head and ceramic pistons.
The EPW3600 is powered by a diesel engine. This makes it more economical, especially when run on red diesel. It has electric start as standard.
Do you provide larger generators?
Yes we can supply generators of any size up to 100kw. Please contact sales@genpoweruk.com for details.
What are the most common problems with portable generators?
We sell 10,000's of generators every year. On the rare occasion that we have a generator returned to us with a fault, we generally find that the cause of the fault is down to one of the following problems:
- Generator used in a confined space with limited air-flow causing over heating.
- Dirt or water in fuel.
- Stale unleaded petrol (over 1 month old)
- Oil not changed at recommended intervals or generator run with low oil level.
- Generator overloaded, causing premature engine or alternator wear or damage.
- Generator under loaded, causing carbon build up and bore glazing
The bottom two points above may seem confusing and contradictory, but it is essential that a generator is not run continuously with a very light load, as this may cause the build up of carbon in the combustion chamber and on the injector tips, preventing the diesel from atomising and causing black smoke and/or 'diesel knock'. If the generator is to be used with a very light load for most of it's life, it is good practice to add an additional load (approx. 75% of it's rated output) and run the generator at this load for an hour or two, every few days off use. This will burn off any excess carbon build up.
